ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League (PML) senior central leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has said that the government is neither concerned nor worried about problems of the countrymen. “The government has focused its entire attention to rig next general elections instead of solving problems of people, said former deputy prime minister Elahi on Tuesday during his visit to a hunger strike camp set up by Majlis Wahdate-e-Muslimeen (MWM) set up in Islamabad. He said that the people were protesting for last 40 days but nobody came to address their grievances. MWM Secretary General Raja Nasir Abbas expressed his gratitude to Elahi for condemning “government’s apathy” towards huger strike in strong words. Referring to his meeting with Opposition Leader Syed Khurshid Shah on Monday, Elahi says, “We have apprised him about our apprehensions regarding appointment of the favourite members in the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).
He said there should be unanimity among all parliamentary parties on the selection of the ECP members. He said that all parties should be given representation in the parliamentary committee formed to appoint ECP members. “If the present system continues, the next general election will also be rigged,” he said. He added that the commission having members politically appointed would not be able to conduct fair elections.
The PML members also visited residence of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmaker Ghulam Sarwar Khan and expressed condolence over the sad demise of his brother Siddique Khan. They also expressed heartfelt sympathies with the bereaved family.
