ISLAMABAD:The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) hinted on Thursday at attending the National Assembly (NA) session to oppose the 24th constitutional amendment bill when tabled, a local news channel reported.
PTI leader Shah MehmoodQureshi said that the party will consider joining the session to oppose the bill when it is presented – for which will party Chairman Imran Khan will be consultedto formulate a strategy.
Qureshi said that it was more of a political matter than a legal one as he alleged that the new amendment was based on ill intention to escape accountability.
“We’ll oppose this bill on political basis, not legal,”the PTI leader said.
He claimed that the amendment was aimed at obstructing any possible decision taken against the government by the Supreme Court (SC) in the Panama leaks case.
He said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) had opposed a similar bill in the past when it was presented by Member National Assembly Farhatullah Babar.
